With the assistance of many volunteers, St. Christine Christian Services has many Outreach Programs that serve the people of the Greater Brightmoor area in Detroit, Michigan in various ways. The following programs are funded mostly though the generosity of individuals as well as Faith Communities.
Soup Kitchen: The Parishioners (the former St. Christine Parish) themselves opened the Soup Kitchen on December 1, 1982 in response to the needs of their neighbors. Today the Kitchen now serves approximately 400 meals every Tuesday.
Food Pantry: Approximately 12 years later, again responding to the needs of others, a Food Pantry was opened. The large grocery bags which are distributed every Tuesday are meant to supplement the food budget of those poor people who live in this poverty area.
Activity Center: Once again the people of St. Christine saw a need and responded to it. In an attempt to keep the children from playing in the streets and off the drug invested area, an Activity Center (similar to an after school program) was opened in the Fall of 2001.
The Christmas Program: With the partnership of 29 other Parishes in the Archdiocese of Detroit, St. Christine Christian Services is able to provide for the needs of over 400 families. Families receive everything from Christmas dinners to clothing and gifts for each person living in the household.
Summer Basketball Program: Every Thursday night mid-June until school resumes, you can find adult men and women volunteering to mentor young men and women in the parking lot of St. Christine Church while having fun playing basketball.
